Enterprise DevOps Tools Support the Cloud

There are a number of reasons why a release manager’s job is growing increasingly complicated. The adoption of DevOps, cloud and virtualization – all solutions which promise streamlining, agility and reduced time-to-market – has created such process complexity that it can’t conceivably be handled with manual scripting. At this point, automation isn’t only best practice, it’s a necessary practice.

The #1 driver in moving to private cloud is speed and agility, with 73% of enterprises citing it as the most important driver, according to the Forrester report, “The Changing Cloud Agenda”. In order to ensure rapid deployments in cloud environments, you need not only automated infrastructure provisioning but also automated release operations for the application layer and effective DevOps. Developers can do more in the cloud, and infrastructure can be turned up instantly, so release operations need to keep up – release processes must be cut down to minutes and rollbacks have to be fast and flawless.

DevOps Architects Work Overtime

In 2011 we conducted a survey on working conditions for DevOps and IT professionals and found that nearly 60% of respondents reported regularly working overtime. 31% worked overtime at least once a month and 27% reported working extra hours at least once a week!
