Achieving Zero Touch Deployment in an Agile Environment
Agile methodologies may have revolutionized the enterprise software industry but they’ve created a major headache for many IT operations teams.
By establishing agile methodologies, development teams have shortened the software development life cycle and successfully managed to keep up with rapid releases. Testing and integration teams have established Continuous Integration (CI) to keep pace with the iterative and incremental approach of agile development.
However, within many agile organizations, the bottleneck that previously overloaded development and testing has simply shifted to the operations department. New applications and updates are stuck at deployment – counteracting the basic goal of agile methodology to accelerate the speed of software releases to the market.
In a new white paper, application release experts Daniel Kushner and Eran Sher set out to explore solutions for this frustrating problem. They found that a fully automated and transparent process, known as ‘Zero Touch Deployment‘, is the key to ensuring that rapid and incremental releases can be successfully executed in operations.
“Zero Touch Deployment can help organizations fulfill the objective of the release station in an ‘agile’ framework – namely, to deploy new code to production immediately after it has completed the development and testing stations”.

But how can this visionary ‘Zero Touch Deployment’ process be achieved? In the white paper, Daniel and Eran explore two approaches to realizing Zero Touch Deployment – a script-based solution and an automation platform. They study the benefits and drawbacks of each approach, taking into account the manifold complexities of release automation.
We are also holding a webinar on Zero Touch Deployment on the 7th of September. This webinar will explore how release management techniques can be streamlined to reconcile the gulf between rapid agile development practices and time-consuming deployment processes.
